If your machine is only etching parts of a file or seems to be lazing over the same line then this is the cause of a loose set screw or screws on the INNER gear of the Y-axis shaft. The gear is slipping on the shaft which is causing the machine not to step up to etch the next line. The placement of this gear is in the back right corner of the machine where the Y-stepper motor gear connects to the shaft via a belt.
To test this: Turn machine off...grab the bridge or the rail that the lazer head slides on and move it back and forth while watching the gear and the belt in that corner...If the belt does not move with the shaft or the gear moves but not the shaft then the set screws are loose in that gear..
To fix this you must remove the Y-Axis shaft belt in order to tighten the set screws...In order to get the belt off the gears you must first loosen the Y-Axis stepper motor bolts and allow the motor to sag...Put a drop of loctite on the threads and tighten up both set screws...Replace belt back onto gears..Use a piece of wood on the side rail and a wonder bar to pry up on the base of the motor to get the right tension on the belt and tighten the bolts... DUE NOT OVER PRY...Problem fixed!
